Data & AI Engineer - Microsoft Azure Platform

Role Overview

We are seeking a Data & AI Engineer-Microsoft Azure Platform to help design and deliver the next generation of our data, analytics, and AI capabilities.

This role goes beyond traditional BI or ETL development. The ideal candidate will build and optimize data pipelines, enable secure and scalable analytics, support Power BI Embedded, and contribute to AI-powered experiences such as intelligent search, narrative summaries, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

This is a high-impact role for an engineer who is comfortable working across Azure SQL, Power BI, data integration, and Azure AI services, while balancing performance, cost, security, and maintainability. NOTE: This position is fully on-site in our Stamford, CT office.

Key Responsibilities

1) Data Platform Engineering

  • Design, build, and optimize data pipelines and data models using Azure SQL and related Azure services

  • Support ingestion, transformation, and preparation of structured and semi-structured data for analytics and AI use cases

  • Improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency across the data platform

2) Analytics & Power BI Embedded

  • Develop and support Power BI datasets, reports, dashboards, and embedded analytics experiences

  • Implement secure App-Owns-Data embedding patterns

  • Support Row-Level Security (RLS), identity mapping, and multi-tenant reporting requirements

  • Optimize Azure SQL data structures and queries used by reports and app features

  • Improve performance and scalability of customer-facing reporting experiences

3) AI & Intelligent Insights

Contribute to AI-enabled features such as:

  • RAG / intelligent document search

  • AI-generated narrative summaries intelligent recommendations and contextual insights

  • Prepare and structure data for AI indexing, retrieval, and consumption

  • Work with engineering teams to ensure AI outputs are secure, explainable, and aligned with access controls

4) Azure Platform & Integration

Work across Azure services such as:

  • Azure SQL Database

  • Azure App Service

  • Azure Key Vault

  • Azure AI Search

  • Azure OpenAI (or equivalent Azure AI services)

5) Cross-System Integration

Work with application developers and architects to connect:

  • Azure SQL

  • Power BI Embedded

  • AI services

  • web APIs

  • authentication/authorization systems

6) Security, Governance, and Reliability

Apply best practices for:

  • authentication / authorization

  • secrets management

  • data security

  • audit logging

  • cost monitoring

Core Requirements & Skills

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in information systems, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)

  • Strong experience with Azure SQL Database and cloud-based relational data services, including query development, performance tuning, and database management

  • Experience with Power BI, including Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) and Power Query (M)

  • Familiarity with development tools and platforms such as:

  • Visual Studio Code, Microsoft Azure services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Blob Storage, or similar)

  • Ability to learn and understand business processes and apply them to application development and database solutions

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under pressure

  • Preferred: Microsoft Azure certifications (or equivalent hands-on experience)
